Treatment · Lifting & firming
Treat firmness without automatically adding volume.
A patient who feels less firm does not necessarily need more volume. Skin quality and dermal support can contribute to how firm, smooth and rested the face appears — and anatomy, depth and tissue quality decide whether a firming approach is the appropriate answer at all.
What this treats
This treatment family is considered when declining firmness or laxity — not volume loss — is the primary finding.
How the technology is chosen
Firmness has more than one mechanism.
Ultrasound and radiofrequency reach and heat tissue differently, and none of the three options here is positioned as a replacement for surgery. A patient's dominant problem — surface firmness, deeper structural support, true volume deficiency, or something else entirely — decides which, if any, applies. The question is never how deeply a device can reach; it's what assessment actually found.
Technology options
Three options exist within this family. Which, if any, applies follows from assessment — not from this list.
- 01
Sofwave
Firmness without making volume the default.
Uses non-invasive ultrasound energy to heat targeted dermal tissue and support a regenerative response associated with collagen remodeling. Not positioned as a replacement for surgery — structural anatomy, volume distribution and degree of laxity still need to be assessed separately.
- 02
Ultherapy PRIME
See the anatomy before delivering the energy.
Combines microfocused ultrasound with real-time visualization, allowing treatment to be planned at defined tissue depths — manufacturer information describes treatment transducers at 1.5 mm, 3.0 mm and 4.5 mm, with visualization extending deeper. Anatomy and tissue depth guide where treatment belongs, not simply how deep the device can reach.
- 03
Thermage FLX
A tissue question, not automatically a volume question.
Delivers radiofrequency energy with integrated cooling and vibration to support collagen remodeling for selected wrinkles and firmness concerns. Thermage and ultrasound lifting technologies differ in energy form and clinical behavior and are not interchangeable "tightening machines."

When another approach may make more sense
If the primary concern is substantial structural descent, true volume deficiency, pigment, vascular change or surface texture, another treatment family — or a combination — may address the dominant component more directly. None of these technologies should be presented as equivalent to surgical lifting.
Before your consultation
Bring what feels different, not a device request.
You don't need to know whether it's ultrasound or radiofrequency. That's what assessment is for.
